The Dome

DESCRIPTION
When the members of a Florida religion were told the world was ending, they quickly sold all their worldly goods, built and furnished a dome that would withstand the coming poisonous gas that would envelope the earth.

Only 409 members were given a “key personnel” number—that is, deemed key to the survival of the group—mainly engineers, doctors, and scientists who could perfect robots.

As many years inside the dome went by, doctors were no longer necessary since robots’ medical skills were perfected and replacement body parts for humans were developed.

The leader would not tolerate any deviant looks or behavior. Humans underwent operations to become a physical duplicate of a model number one through twelve with a personality type one through sixteen.

By the year 2146, robots had become more and more human, while humans were almost robots.

On April 1, April Devine, a girl of twelve, by law, must choose her new face—but she is fearful to undergo the beautification operations since she was one of the few who were not a test-tube birth and she knew her mother would no longer be able to recognize her.
